Researchers used remotely operated vehicles to explore the Pacific Ocean's Mariana Trench. This week, they released their study of the eruption of a volcano some 2.8 miles (4.5 km) below the ocean surface. They say it's the deepest known eruption on Earth - deeper below the waves than Mount Rainier’s height above sea level. Read more.
It's an easy constellation to identify. On these October evenings, look for Cassiopeia high in the northeast sky, not far from the North Star. Read more.
