A research team recorded the sound of methane bubbles seeping from the seafloor off the Oregon coast, with the aim of using acoustics to identify – and perhaps quantify – this greenhouse gas.

Stephanie Tilden Dorr in Wichita, Kansas, caught these clouds on June 26, 2018. She wrote: "Mammatus clouds appearing exactly one hour after a hailstorm passed over. Twenty-five years in Kansas and I’ve only seen mammatus clouds this vivid one other time, years ago. So exciting!"
