Mars is now brighter than since 2003

It's bright. It's red. It's in the sky nearly all night. What is it!? It's Mars, and it'll shine brilliantly throughout July and August.
Tonight … Moon north of star Antares

The name Antares comes from the Greek and means rival of Ares - that is, rival of Mars. Antares is red, too, and it's usually brighter than Mars. But it's no match for Mars now.

Mars is very bright now! And it's very red in color. Dennis Chabot of POSNE NightSky captured this photo of Mars yesterday.
