Dennis Shoenfelder in Alamosa County, Colorado, created this composite from images taken June 12. He wrote: "The smoke from the 416 Fire near Durango caused some bright red sunsets." The last of the evacuation orders for this fire were lifted this week, as rainfall squelched the fire.
The moon, our closest neighbor world, lies some 242,000 miles (390,000 km) distant from Earth. Jupiter orbits our sun much farther away. It's nearly 1,800 times the moon's distance from us.
